Painter, graphic artist, teacher, writer on art. Born in Moscow (1887) in the family of French chemist Éphraïm Jean-Baptiste Émile Bailly (1857–1927) and his Russian wife Maria Tsyplakova (1863–1944). Studied at Alexis Falize’s private studio in Moscow (1902–03), Central Stroganov School of Technical Drawing (1903–05), Konstantin Juon and Ivan Dudin School of Painting and Drawing (1906–07) and K. E. Kish’s studio (1909–11). Attended the Tower studio (1911–12). Lived in Paris and worked alongside Nadezhda Udaltsova and Sofia Karetnikova in free art studios (1912–13). Contributed to the Store exhibition in Moscow (1915). Member of Makovets (1923–26). Resigned from Makovets with Lev Zhegin and founded the Path of Painting group (1926). Taught children art in IZO Narkompros (1918–30) and the Museum of History (1944–52). Died in Moscow (1952).
