Isaac Rabinovich designed the sets and costumes for a production of Till Eulenspiegel at the Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko Theatre of Music in 1931. The artist audaciously reconstructed the architecture of the theatre, setting the mise-en-scènes on a revolving circle in the centre of the stage and transferring the main action to a special proscenium in front of the orchestra pit. This daring step was intended to enhance the simultaneous, incessant action typical of the musical theatre. The opera was directed by L. V. Bartov and premiered on 25 November 1931.
