The Annunciation Bridge was the first permanent bridge across the River Neva. Decree on the construction of the bridge signed by Tsar Nicholas I (18 November 1841). Built by engineer Stanis?aw Kierbiedz (1842–50). Alexander Brullov designed the gaslights and railings. Renamed the Nicholas Bridge (1855) and the Lieutenant Schmidt Bridge (1918).
