Paternitas

Paternitas is a variant of the Trinity. God the Father is represented as a silver-haired elder. The Son sits on His knees in the form of the Infant Christ. The Holy Spirit is depicted as a dove in a circular halo in the hands of the Child or above His head. This iconography first appeared in Russian painting in the twelfth century and was particularly popular in the seventeenth century.
