The St Nicholas Monastery in Gostinopolye stood on the bank of the River Volkhov, not far from Staraya Ladoga. The date of its founding is unclear, although it is known to have existed in the fifteenth century, when the Church of St Nicholas the Miracle-Worker was built from stone. The monastery was later closed down (1764), while the Church of St Nicholas was destroyed during the Second World War (1942).
