The Turnip

Once upon a time, grandfather planted a turnip seed. The turnip grew and grew, until it was very big indeed. One day, grandfather went out into the garden to pull up the turnip. He tugged and pulled, but he was unable to pull it out. So he called for grandmother to come and help him. Grandmother called for her granddaughter to help, who called for the dog to help, who called for the cat to help, who called for the little mouse to help. The mouse tugged on the cat, the cat tugged on the dog, the dog tugged on the granddaughter, the granddaughter tugged on grandmother, grandmother tugged on grandfather – and with a great, mighty tug, out came the turnip!
