The Premier Site for Russian Culture
Saratov Province lies on the River Volga in eastern European Russia. The native population is Russians. The traditional festive female attire consisted of a long blouse made from white linen with long, shoulder-width sleeves. The collar was tucked in at the side. A brocade sarafan with a bright floral pattern and gold fringe was worn over the blouse. The sarafan was bound by a sash. Women also put on a body-warmer. Married women wore the sarafan with a special headdress – a small hat with ribbons tied in a bow at the back. The footwear was morocco-leather boots.
