Poet. Born in the family of Lieutenant General Abram Baratynsky (1767–1810) in the village of Mara in Tambov Province (1800). Joined the Corps des Pages in St Petersburg (1812). Expelled for theft. Private of the Jäger Life Guards Regiment (1815). Promoted to warrant-officer and transferred to Finland (1820). Visited the literary salons of Sofia Ponomareva on Furstadt Street near the Tauride Gardens and the Voeikov literary circle at 64 Nevsky Prospekt (1820s). Contributed to such publications inspired by Alexander Pushkin as Polar Star, Northern Flowers and Literary Gazette. Resigned with the rank of ensign and moved to Moscow (1825). Died in Naples and buried at the St Alexander Nevsky Monastery in St Petersburg (1844).
