Prince Dmitry the Grandson was the son of Prince Ivan the Young and Princess Helen of Moldavia. He was born on 10 October 1483 and crowned grand prince in the cap of Monomachus at the Dormition Cathedral in the Moscow Kremlin on 4 February 1498. The second wife of Ivan III, Sophia Palaiologina, intrigued against Dmitry. Ivan III forbade Dmitry’s name to be remembered in the liturgical prayers (11 April 1502) and crowned his own son instead as Grand Prince Basil III (14 April 1502). He was imprisoned in 1505 and died on 14 February 1509. Buried in the Archangel Cathedral in the Moscow Kremlin.
