Painter, graphic artist, theatrical designer, decorator, teacher. Born in the family of Christophor Rutkovsky in the village of Schönberg (now Skaistkalne) in Latvia (1892). Studied under Nicholas Roerich, Ivan Bilibin and Arkady Rylov at the School of Drawing of the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts (1911–13) and under Vasily Belyaev at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1913–17, 1921–22). Member of the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia (late 1920s). Taught monumental painting at the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. Died in Leningrad (1968). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1923).
