Graphic artist, painter, illustrator. Born in the family of Alexei Shmarinov in Kazan (1907). Studied under Nikolai Prakhov in Kiev and then painting and drawing at Dmitry Kardovsky’s studio in Moscow (1923–28). Worked for such publishing houses as Goslitizdat, Detgiz and Khudozhestvennaya Literatura (from 1927). Member of the Union of Artists. Headed a creative studio of graphic art at the Academy of Arts in Moscow (1962–66). Member of the Association Internationale des Artes Plastiques (1967). Died in Moscow and buried at the Vagankovo Cemetery (1999). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1929).
