Otari Kandaurov

Painter, graphic artist, teacher. Born in the family of Zakhar Kandaurov in Kemerovo (1937). Studied at the Vasily Surikov Institute of Art in Moscow (1951–56) and Moscow Institute of Polygraphy (1957–61). Contributed to the work of the international art studio at the VI World Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow (1957). Taught at the School of Young Workers on Chekhov Street (1961–64). Member of the Municipal Committee of Graphic Artists (from 1964). Associated with members of the Lianozovo group and other nonconformist artists. Worked on the Theatre of Painting project (from early 1980s). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1957), including Times of Change: Art in the Soviet Union (1960–85) at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2006).
