Painter, draughtsman, teacher. Born in the family of Kirill Makarov in the town of Dusheti in Georgia (1842). Studied at the Novgorod-Severskaya Grammar School (1853–60) and the Imperial Academy of Arts (1860–72). Awarded a minor gold medal (1869) and a major gold medal (1871). Accompanied Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich the Elder to Turkey, Egypt and Palestine (1872), sketched works from life engraved and published in Journey across the East and the Holy Land in the Retinue of Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich in 1872 (1881). Awarded the Order of St Anne after crossing the River Danube during the Russo-Turkish War (1877–78). Taught at the School of Drawing of the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts. Contributed watercolour paintings to the Society of Exhibitions on Nevsky Prospekt in St Petersburg (1882). Died in St Petersburg (1884).
