Painter, draughtsman, engraver. Studied history painting under Grigory Ugryumov at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1803–08). Awarded minor gold medals (1805, 1806), major silver medal (1806) and a first-class certificate (1808). Accompanied Konstantin Borozdin’s historical and archaeological expedition across Russia (1809–10).
