The Premier Site for Russian Culture
Built by engineers Vladimir Nazimov and Illarion Golenischev-Kutuzov (1765–66) when laying the Catherine Canal on the site of the earlier wooden bridge (1716). Luigi Rusca widened the bridge to its modern dimensions and replaced the iron railings with granite parapets during construction of the Kazan Cathedral (1805). Known as the Nativity Bridge (1766–1830).
