Gleb Bogomolov

Born: 1933, Leningrad

Painter, graphic artist. Father of television presenter and politician Alexander Nevzorov (born 1958). Born in the family of a sailor and amateur artist called Sergei Bogomolov in Leningrad (1933). Attended a studio at the House of Pioneers and classes at the Leningrad Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinematography (1956). Leading participant in the Soviet underground art movement (1970s). Member of the St Petersburg Academy of Modern Art and the Union of Artists. Contributed to more than two hundred exhibitions in Russia and abroad (from 1974), including the shows of nonconformist art at the Ivan Gaza and Nevsky Palaces of Culture in Leningrad (1974, 1975), Jesus Christ in Christian Art and Culture (14th to 20th Centuries) at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2000), Abstraction in Russia: XX Century at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2001–02), Portraiture in Russia: XX Century at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2001–02), Collage in Russia: XX Century at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2005–06) and Times of Change: Art in the Soviet Union (1960–85) at the Russian Museum in St Petersburg (2006).
